Drug and alcohl rehab after-care support

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

An important focus of any respectable treatment center has to be their the follow-up services. Logic dictates that returning to the community requires a strong support system. This includes the sober minded people easily reachable and able to guide the recovering alcoholic and drug addict towards a stable and productive lifestyle, in his/her own community. At Addington House we provide the necessary training and resources needed for you or your loved one to reintegrate back into your family and the work place. Twelve step fellowship programs are an essential part of a quality after-care program. Any center that does not encourage their clients to seek out and participate actively in 12 step groups are not providing the leadership and professional direction needed. Most likely they will advertize excessive success rates and try to discourage people from becoming 12 step members. They will negate 12 step programs with faulty logic. Unfortunately, many people, such as yourself, are desprate and vulnerable to unfair marketing techniques and the promise of success clouds your judgement. We at Addington House make no such claims. Other centers have an agenda, we have a proven program, which includes a minumum two year after-care program. Success is a relative term and impossible to define. To us, a resident, who changes his/her lifestle is a success according to their criteria. That is why a strong support group including the 12 step fellowships is an essential part of after-care programs. Before you choose a center, ask about their after-care services.

Drug alcohol rehab-controlled drinking myth

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

Those “profressionals”, who propose the absurb thought, that an alcoholic can control drinking, are doing their clients a harmful disservice. As one of our residents, at Addington House, put it. “I will drink all your alcohol and then punch you in the mouth”. Alcoholism and drug abuse are serious disorders that respond well to 12 step programs because the causal factors are addressed. Controlled drinking deals only with the symptom and gives the drinker a legit reason to continue. responsible treatment professionals know that abstinence is the only proven method. Twelve step programs combined with the support of AA, and in the case of drug abuse, CA and NA, gives the substance abuser a real opportunity to get the needed help.

drug rehab program talks about drug and alcohol myths and lies:marijuana is not addictive

Friday, May 25th, 2007

“I can stop anytime I want”. This is the big lie substance abusers use to justify their continued abuses. They will generally not stop and ridgidly oppose anyone who challenges this position. They will have logical explanations and impeccable logic designed to confuse the people close to them. They may even tell you that they will prove it to you by abstaining, for the period of time it takes to convince you. Then they are back at it again.

”Marijuana is not addictive”. This is a dangerous statement. The THC level in marijuana today is at 25%. this makes it a powerful drug with addictive properties. It is destructive on it’s own and a definite gateway drug to other substances. The myth that a joint is just like a drink keeps the myth going. Many hard core drug abusers started out believing the myth and ended up becoming fullfledged drug addicts. This is not the maryjane of the sixties. Todays marijuana growers use sophisticated techniques to produce potent and purer strains of ‘weed’.
